Hazmat 1 Response is comprised of 2 apparatus pieces. The first rig is a 2011 Ferrara Heavy Duty firetruck. It can respond with 6 Firefighters. The rig allows the Chauffer and Officer to ride in the front cab and 4 Firefighters to respond in the rear cab. It is outfitted with 7 drivers side compartments, 6 officer side compartments, 6 internal storage compartments and 2 bench style storage compartments. There is a full library of chemical and hazardous material reference books as well as a computer and communication system located in the rear cab. This rig is where Hazmat1 stores their numerous meters used for analyzing and classifying air quality and substances at any hazardous materials incident. Lastly, levels of personal protective gear are also housed within the inner storage compartments of this response vehicle. Hazmat1’s second piece is a 2014 Ferrara Heavy Duty firetruck. It responds with 2 Firefighters, yet it can accommodate up to 6 firefighters. There are 4 drivers side compartments, 4 passenger side compartments, 1 rear compartment and 6 storage compartments located on top of this rig. This rig contains many of the tools, hoses, patches and plugs used when encountering leaks from hazardous material shipping vessels. Often referred to as “The Dirty Rig”, the second piece can be like a Home Depot on wheels with the equipment necessary to safely stop and secure any chemical leaks threatening the public.
